Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
What are the technical requirements for this year's event?
All you need is access to a computer or mobile device, such as a phone or tablet, with an internet connection. Webcams and microphones are not required as you will only be able to hear and see the speakers. They will not be able to see or hear you.
Will there be a trade show at this year's event?
Unfortunately, there will not be a trade show this year; however, one is planned for next year's conference.
How will I receive a receipt for my conference fees?
You will receive an event confirmation/receipt by email after registering for the event. You can submit this as proof of your registration fee to your school division.
Will there still be practices/concerts for the Band, Choral and Orff Ensembles?
No, unfortunately with the move to the virtual conference, SMC has been forced to cancel the ensembles this year. However, we encourage everyone to participate in our FREE Reading Session that will take place on Friday, November 6 at 7:00 pm.
Will I still be able to interact with the presenters during the sessions?
Yes, a Q&A discussion will occur at the end of each LIVE session through a text-based chat room. Simply type in your questions, and the speaker will answer them.
Recorded sessions will feature any questions/answers that were discussed during the live presentation, and you will also be able to email the speaker with any questions you may have after the conference.
What if I have technical issues or cannot see/hear the session?
Conn-Selmer, international experts in virtual music events, will be on hand the day of the conference to help solve any technical questions or glitches that may arise.
I’m not very tech savvy. Will I still be able to enjoy this year’s event?
Absolutely! The software we are using is very user friendly. If you can click on a link and enter a username and password, you’ll be able to access and enjoy the event.
How will I join the conference sessions?
On November 3, 2020 all registered delegates will receive an email with a digital copy of this year’s program (with links to each of the sessions), a short video explaining how the sessions will work, and a username and password to login to the live and recorded sessions.
Will all of the sessions be available for streaming after the event?
Yes! All of the sessions are being recorded and will be available for up to one week after the event. You won't have to miss out on any of our outstanding speakers this year!
Do I need to download software to participate?
No, all of the sessions are viewed through an internet browser. Crome is recommended, but Safari works well, too.
Will I still be able to access all of the handouts that are included with each session?
Yes! We recommend setting up a folder where you can download the handouts to as you watch the sessions.
